  • If you are going to be in the vending industry, you should know some of the terminology that is used:

    Bulk: 
    Small size product (Gumballs, nuts, etc...) vended in quantities.

    Cap/Lid: 
    Lid of the machine.

    Capsule: 
    A round or square container, normally made of plastic, that snaps together and holds a vendible product.

    Coin - Op:
    Abbreviation for Coin Operated.

    Commission:
    The part of the gross sales of the machine paid to the merchant by the operator for use of the space.

    Count:
    Amount of candy in a box. i.e. - 850 Count Box has 850 pieces of gumballs.

    Flap:
    Door where the product exits the machine.

    Keyed alike:
    Machines using the exact same type of key.

    Mech:
    Abbreviation for Coin Mechanism.

    Operator:
    A company that provides the vending service/product to the retail customer.

    Panel:
    Usually a side, or back section of a machine. It may be metal or plastic, clear or opaque.

    Pie Wheel:
    Wheel accompanied by a brush that aids in vending bulk products.

    Product:

    Refers to the item vended from the machine. Nuts, candy, gumballs, soda, etc...

    Retro:
    Relating to, reviving, or being the styles and especially the fashions of the past : fashionably nostalgic.

    Slip - Clutch:
    A mechanism that is able to turn with no coin, but won't dispense the product and will not break.

    Slugs:
    Any disk shaped object that is used to substitute money. Any reputable manufacturer will use a coin mechanism to prevent slugs.

    Vendible:
    Product or service that is dispensed from a machine.

    Vend/Vending:
    A method of selling by way of using a machine.
